So, the day started with breakfast, oatmeal of course. I was slow to get up, and not wanting to go to church. So, I drop kicked the devil and got out of the bed, got dressed, and went to meet Francisco's dad in the piazza. He is so sweet, and I can understand most of his Italian. He is also really patient with my Italian, so I appreciate that. We were getting close to church when I spotted....MY FIRST ITALIAN SNOWFLAKE!! This may seem silly to some, but for a girl from Alabama who rarely sees snow, this was exciting for me! He thought I was so cute getting excited about it!
However, once we walked into the church, we turned around to see HUGE snowflakes. I was sooo incredibly excited...everyone else joined me in my excitement. Then, we went outside to look at it. It was so gorgeous...the snow flakes were HUGE...ridiculously big...the biggest I've ever seen! It was a steady, heavy stream of snow and just unbelievably gorgeous!
I was in awe...and Francisco was sweet to offer to take my picture! :) SO, here is the snow:
The service was good, but I was having attention problems today! The worship was great, but for some reason I had a hard time following the message. I did get some things out of it, but I was struggling. However, I am so blessed and grateful to have a church family here in Italy. Such an answer to my prayers!
It snowed most of the time we were in church, but when we got out, it had mostly melted into icy slush. Franco, Francisco's dad, drove me home and we talked all the way there! :) Yay for Italian! We even talked about how we both made cima di rapa for lunch on Saturday...CRAZY!!
When I got home, it was snowing SOOO much. I however, did not turn on my heat because my landlord called and FREAKED ME OUT the other night about the bill. She said she would call me Monday with the exact cost, but that I could pay it in installments...okay, this sounds bad! So, the gas is going to cost me a fortune...so I am bundling up from here on out and only turning heat on at night...this has NOT been fun so far! I do NOT like to be cold, and if you know me well, you know that I get cold VERY EASILY!!!!!!!!!!! So, this is going to be a long few months of cold weather we have left...I hope I dont get sick...but until I know if it is really that extreme or that they are exaggerating...then no heat it is! I've done a great job of not using electricity...I think...I rarely turn the lights on until it is NECESSARY...and I try to use very little water...getting harder with longer hair...but apparently the gas is going to break my checking account...stay tuned for the actual price...
I distracted myself with taking pictures of the BEAUTIFUL snow!
I skyped with my momma and daddy so that they could see the snow! I did some work...watched the snow...and eventually had to lay down for a bit! Nick and I were on skype, and we took naps! My nap was cut short by my phone ringing a few times: teachers telling me that school was cancelled for Monday and Tuesday (Tuesday mainly because of Carnivale...but Monday because of the snow!). I also got an email from Linda telling me this! So grateful for those who were looking out for me!
So, what do Alabama and Cosenza have in common? They both shut down when it snows! Doesn't hurt my feelings. This means that I work 3 days this week and then I am peace-ing out to go to Reggio, Parma, Rome, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, and then home to Cosenza. Two weeks of early childhood dreams coming true...travel...Nick...Fulbright loves (i.e. other ETA's...but we will be missing our Lindsay).
Then I got the greatest surprise. Kelly and Gracie asked if I could skype! UMMMM... YES PLEASE!! So, I got to talkt o Gracie and Kelly for a while and it made me miss them so much...and being close to them (physically). Mae and Tony weren't there at first...so, I caught up on all of the Tuscaloosa news and loved every minute of it! Then Sarah Mason and Tony got home with lunch...I was making dinner...and ate some. SM said she was going to go eat and call me back! SO then later I got the wonderful treat of talking to Sarah Mason for a bit! I miss those girls so much!
It was a wonderful day of beautiful snow...fabulous skype sessions...good food...and no school on Monday and Tuesday, which = getting ready for Reggio and working on lesson plans for the future...yay for the gift of time!!
