THe thing about Southern Italy is...

One Year Ago Today...http://dreaminginitalianthistime.blogspot.it/2011/11/tiredirritatedand-need-sleep.html

So, after about 3 hours of sleep, we got up early so that Nick could check the train times and we could get him to the train station on time.  The problem was that as he began checking trains from Paola to Rome, they were ALL sold out…this was no joke…every single train he looked at was sold out.  After we determined that there truly was no train to Rome, Nick began calling his teachers and emailing them.  Within no time, they had talked to him or emailed him to say that it was fine and that “it happens all the time”!  One teacher said, “like my American Yoga teacher says, ‘ill see you when I see you’”!  The Italians can be so laid back.  So, because he now could not make it back to Gubbio in time for work, and he has Tuesdays off, he decided to stay until Tuesday morning so that he could go to school with me on Monday.  So, that made for an interesting morning.

When I talked to Virginia about Nick coming to school with me the next day, her immediate reaction was, "oooh do you just want to stay home?!?!?" OOOh the Italians...I love them!

We then walked to the far away grocery store to get a few things…we wanted meat for dinner and I needed to grab a few of my essentials.  When we returned to the apartment it was close enough to lunch time, so we ate a small lunch and then I laid down to take a nap.  I slept for maaaybe 2 hours, but Nick said that he never really could fall asleep.  We kind of just bummed around the rest of the day, but we did go out to Corso Mazzini for passeggiata.  We strolled along, and even decided to have gelato.  We had this flavor that was some sort of liquor from Calabria, and strawberry.  I accidently dropped it on the ground, so we had to scrape the top layer of the gelato off.  On our way back we saw this group of people gathered around someone singing, so we checked it out!  We listened for a few minutes and people seemed to know all the songs, and the guy was doing impressions of other singers, but of course it was lost on us.
It was a fun impromptu stop though.  Once we made our way back to the apartment to cook dinner.  We had pasta and hamburger patties I believe.  We sat around talking for a while and then sleep came early because we were both so exhausted.

So, trains in Southern Italy can kind of suck…but it will be nice to have someone come to school with me and meet my students and see what I am experiencing.
