Valeria's class was first up. We were not able to go to the lab, so we did the postcard activity! Some of them did really well, and others were putting makeup on in the back of the classroom. I just do NOT understand this! They were all asking me to work with them and get them away from the substitute, but when I have activities for them, they do NOT participate! It just lets me know that they (well, 90% of them) just want me to be left in charge so that they can take advantage of me, which frankly, pisses me off!
Next up was Rosina's class. We talked about their Easter break, and because I didn't really have a lesson planned, I distracted them with talking about beaches in Southern Italy! It actually turned out to be a lot of fun! I kept messing up and calling the water an ocean, but it is actually different seas. I drew them a picture to explain that I do that because we only have oceans and they only have seas. Then they started drawing me a picture so that we could discuss it! They told me about their favorite beaches and why! It was really fun and interesting for me!
I'm definitely going to figure out a way to get to one or two of these places...I must! Once we finished this, we still had some time to kill. I started telling them about the New York stuff, etc. I had to stop and have a "come to Jesus" meeting with them though because the boys in the back were goofing off and making me really mad. Of course this all did no good! I was telling them how it is ridiculous for them to keep others from learning! I'm sorry, but if you do not want to learn...FINE, but you do NOT have the right to keep others from learning! This was never acceptable in my high school (or middle, elementary, UA classes, etc), and it is NOT acceptable to me! The problem is that the ones who are doing the goofing off do not understand English, so I had to ask someone to translate it for me! I was so mad when I left them because I can see it on the others' faces that they wish it were different, but they do not know what to do.
After class, Rosina was taking me to Castrolibero. We stopped at the other coffee place and had a cappuccino and I had a cornetto. Rosina is so sweet and I love spending time with her!
Francesca's class, though I was not looking forward to it, went REALLY well! We went to the computer lab, and she had them tell us about what they did for Easter. Then we talked about beaches in southern Italy! They had me google pictures, etc. They were telling me why a beach was their favorite or why they did not like it. It was a really interesting conversation, and it was nice to see pictures of the places that the other group mentioned as well! For the most part they were all engaged, but Francesca seemed a bit annoyed that I was not doing a formal lesson plan! Francesca told me that she was leaving for England and would have a substitute for next week.
Angelino was not in class, and the substitute told me that I could go home. I started walking, and Lilla pulled up next to me and told me that she would take me. We talked all the way to my apartment and it was nice to not walk home, though I do usually enjoy it. I was still feeling kind of bad, so it was nice to get a ride.
When Lilla dropped me off I walked around the corner to the grocery store to get a few things and then went back home. I was really reluctant to eat lunch because I did not feel good at all. What little I did eat was not satisfying because it did not taste right and I ended up wishing I had not eaten at all. I went to lay down and I worked on some stuff while I laid there. I was going to take a nap, but I ended up just watching "Just Go With It" instead of actually sleeping, but I felt better about just relaxing. I did add stuff to my calendar, only to realize how busy my April is!
I spend most of the evening talking to Nick, resting, working on lesson plan stuff, and I eventually went to sleep with help from Nyquil!
