Sick Nick

Friday was another great day at school!  It started with Patrizia's class, and we did the "running with words" activity.  A few of them whined about having to do as much of it as possible, but they all did it! Once again, it was fun to watch their different techniques for memorizing! One of the phrases they were really confused about was "tis of thee" from "My Country of Thee" in the speech.  They said it was a little difficult to do, but that it was better than just reading for comprehension.

I had an hour break after this, and I didn't do much with it!  I went to the other building and got a cappuccino from the machine and used the computer.

My second class was Linda's, and we talked about their ideas of racism in Italy!  They asked me not to judge them for their answers!  I promised not too, if they would not judge me for being from Alabama and the state of Alabama for it's past.  They were really responsive and engaged in this lesson! I learned a lot!  It was really interesting to hear the reasons they think the racist issues exist.
Then we discussed stereotypes between Northern Italians and Southern Italians.

So, the things listed under "South" are things that the students say Northerners think of them.  Their homework for next week is to research stereotypes that the North think of the South in the United States and vice versa.

When this class was over, I went for another 1 hour break, and I went to the other building because 1. it is better and 2. my next class was in that building.  I just sat in the staff room and wrote things and relaxed.

Linda's class started out slow by discussing words from the speech that they did not know!  Then they asked if we could play a game...I did not have a game planned, and Rosina did not seem too excited about that idea, so I asked them about the North vs. the South thing.  They were pretty engaged in the discussion, and that made me happy!

These were their answers.  I am amazed at some of the similarities.  I gave them the same homework assignment as Linda's class, and I am excited to hear their answers.

I spent the rest of the day at home.  It was raining...never ending rain!  My poor Nick had a fever of 101+.  We skyped for a while...because thank goodness Nick got real internet on Thursday.  We began skyping...and this is our new favorite thing to do!  He even napped while I sat on the computer!  The night was rather uneventful, but I enjoyed just spending it with Nick...even if it is over skype!  :)  I also worked on blogs!
